A GROUP of engineering apprentices have been using their newly acquired skills for the good of the local community. Apprentices at Gen2, Cumbria’s leading apprentice training organisation, have created a range of recycling sculptures to encourage people to recycle plastics they collect on the beach. The challenge was set by MP for Workington, Mark Jenkinson and involved the design, prototyping and manufacturing of a range of large metal sculptures which will be placed on the local beaches to try and reduce plastic waste and encourage people to recycle. More than 30 apprentices helped develop the sculptures at Gen2 centres based in Workington and Ulverston.

The Heart of a Lion
After a lifelong illness, Shane Michael Turner, 43, of Prospect, passed away peacefully in his home on July 14, 2021, with his family by his side.
Shane was born in Waterbury, on June 14, 1978, the son of Thomas and Deborah Turner.
Shane is survived by his parents Thomas and Deborah Turner of Prospect, his brother, Tonchy Turner and wife Nina of Naugatuck, and his favorite niece and partner in crime, Alisa. He is also survived by his two loving godsons, David Berdan IV and Tristian Berdan, as well as numerous members of his extended family in both Maine and Connecticut.
