New operator sought for ferry route April 4, 2021 at 10:45 am The Nordic Sea in Kirkwall. (The Orcadian/Craig Taylor) Orkney Islands Council is tendering for a new operator to run one of Orkney’s shortest regular ferry services, on behalf of Orkney Ferries. The service, from Pierowall in Westray to Papa Westray, is usually operated by a North Isles crew on behalf of Orkney Ferries but OIC has confirmed the service provider, Malcolm Brown from Westray is due to retire, resulting in a market test for a new operator. The mv Nordic Sea is expected to become the vessel for this service later this year but has been undergoing a near £500,000 refit in Buckie since January, to prepare her for UK certification as a passenger ferry. Right-to-carry bill stalled in the Indiana Senate by Margaret Menge, The Center Square | April 01, 2021 09:30 AM Print this article The right-to-carry bill that was moving swiftly through the Indiana General Assembly has now stalled in the Senate, and state senators aren’t saying why. The bill, H.B. 1369, would allow anyone who is legally able to own a handgun to carry one outside the home without having to get a license from the state. If the bill passed and were signed into law, a person wanting a gun for personal protection would not need to go through the process of applying for a license online through the Indiana State Police, making a fingerprint appointment, taking the fingerprints to their local police department and waiting for several weeks to get the license in the mail. As long they are not prohibited by law from owning a gun, they could carry a loaded handgun in a holster, purse, pocket, bag or vehic ....
(Credit: Courtesy photo) Reverend Robert Griffin, pastor of Shelter Island Presbyterian Church, recently realized one of many truths that have emerged from the pandemic. “COVID has tested our characters, but more importantly, it’s revealed our characters,” Reverend Griffin said. “Sometimes in wonderful ways, sometimes in quite other ways. COVID has done that in our town, in our country and in the world.” He, along with other faith leaders, is looking at an Easter and Passover markedly different from the spring of 2020, when COVID locked down in-person services for most of the significant holy days of the Christian and Jewish traditions. ....
Rare Albino Baby Turtle Spotted on Great Barrier Reef Island Resort for First Time Since 2016 A baby albino green sea turtle has been spotted making its way across the sand in Australia. The hatchling has a rare pink coloration due to lack of cell pigmentation, and marine experts are excited by the find. But they fear for the turtle’s survival. The hatchling was spotted on the shores of Lady Elliot Island off the coast of Bundaberg, Australia, early March. Usually dark gray and green with a pale yellow underbelly, this hatchling emerged pinky-white with red eyes, tell-tale traits of albinism. ....
Close Surveyors on Queensland s Lady Elliot Island have merely glimpsed a few albino hatchlings but never a grown-up. Jessica Buckman is familiar with locating crawlers when she stride to Queensland s Lady Elliot Island to check newly hatched green turtle nests. But the little pink creature she discovers in the neck of one nest on Monday was different from a normal discovery - an unusual albino hatchling that was having slight difficulty digging itself out. (Photo : Pixabay) 100,000 Eggs Laid Buckman said to Guardian Australis from the Great Barrier Reef s southernmost coral cay, I brought out a bit of sand and she or a he was at the center of it. I was very surprised, It was quite extraordinary to witness. ....
