A lawmaker suggested giving Minnesota an official state soup Rep. Nash offered the amendment to make a point in a humorous way and isn t intended to be taken seriously. Jim Nash, R-Waconia, is offering an answer to the question no-one has ever asked, by submitting an amendment to the state budget bill to designate a state soup study group. Nash told the Minnesota Reformer he offered the amendment to make a point . and subsequently withdrew it. “There have been so many advisory commissions and councils and different things that I believe ultimately are outsourcing decisions that legislators need to be making, so I’m making a very humorous offering of a group of people who would come together to figure out what the state soup should be,” he told the publication. “It’s not serious in the least.” ....

Well, according to the Evanston History Center, Milburns was a women’s sportswear store from 1937 to 1949.
