Letter proposed bills would support childcare, education needs Wicked Local Regarding the article, “Child care a priority for caucus of women legislators,” [A May 5 report by the Statehouse News Service,] one of the 17 bills endorsed by the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators would provide affordable and accessible high-quality early education and care. This would promote child development and well-being and support the economy. This is House Bill 605, and Senate Bill 362. This is vital legislation for families and children, educators and child care providers. I am grateful that Littleton’s state legislators, Sen. Jamie Eldridge and Rep. Jim Arciero co-sponsored these bills. ....
Wicked Local WESTFORD - The town election saw an upset in a School Committee race, with newcomer Kathryn Clear and incumbents Chris Sanders and Mingquan Zheng as victors but incumbent Avery Adam losing her bid for a third term. Finance Committee member John Cunningham won a two-way contest for an open Select Board seat, defeating Eric Barber-Mingo, co-chairman of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. It was a first-time bid for a Select Board seat for both. Voters in the election, held May 4, approved a trial of a new senior tax relief program. Town Clerk Patty Dubey posted unofficial results on May 4; results are not official until certified by the Board of Registrars. ....

Seeking relief for seniors The senior property tax exemption, approved at fall Town Meeting in 2018, was sent to the town s legislative delegation Rep. Jim Arciero, and Sen. Edward Kennedy and signed into law by Gov. Charlie Baker. Many seniors on fixed incomes face escalating costs exceeding their income, increase in food, utilities, and yes, Westford property taxes outweigh Social Security, Fassbender said. Mark Schulert/Correspondent WESTFORD The town has not received its order of coronavirus vaccines and town officials are growing frustrated. “We have worked extraordinarily hard to try to get it, said Health Director Jeffrey Stephens, who gave an update at the Feb. 9 Select Board meeting. We have done all the things you’re supposed to do…We have a clinic set and ready to go. When and if the vaccine doses arrive, Stephens said a clinic for eligible residents will take place at Nashoba Valley Technical High School.
