Overseas Uyghurs struggle to locate relatives in Xinjiang prisons

By Cate Cadell URUMQI, China (Reuters) - When Ziba Murat last saw her mother, retired Uyghur doctor Gulshan Abbas, at Ronald Reagan Washington National airport in 2016, she begged her not to return to Xinjiang, where reports were emerging about the detention of ethnic minorities. My heart started to beat so fast. I told her not to go, said Murat. We had already started to hear about the camps being built, but she thought she was safe. Shortly after returning home, Abbas told her daughter that her passport was confiscated, without providing details. Murat said their daily video calls became tense, and at times, Abbas would shake her head and cry for no apparent reason. I feel so guilty, I think she was trying to send me messages, said Murat in a phone interview with Reuters. Murat said she last spoke to her mother on September 10, 2018. The day after, Abbas stopped picking up her phone. Abbas disappeared six days after her sister, Rushan Abbas, a high profile U.S-based Uyghur activist, ....

A Modern-Day Holocaust: China's Genocide of Uyghurs and Falun Gong Adherents

Crimes Against Humanity: China’s Genocide of Uyghurs and Falun Gong Adherents
The world is living right in the middle of two modern-day tragedies: the genocide of Uyghur Muslims and Falun Gong spiritual adherents in China.
Independent investigations and researches have confirmed that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has orchestrated twin “crimes against humanity” in the last 20-plus years. Gradually, the world is waking up to the gravity of these human rights violations, which cannot be overlooked any longer.
According to the International Criminal Court: “[T]he crime of genocide is characterized by the specific intent to destroy in whole or in part a national, ethnic, racial or religious group by…causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; [or] deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.” ....

Uighur Activist Ziba Murat Pleads For Her Mother's Release From China

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared one day before leaving office that the Chinese government is committing genocide and crimes against humanity in its repression of the Uighur population in the Xinjiang province.
The news is especially significant to Ziba Murat, an activist advocating for the liberation of her Uighur mother, Dr. Gulshan Abbas. The public recently learned that the Chinese Communist Party sentenced Abbas in March of 2019 for 20 years in prison on false charges. Despite denial from the CCP, it has been discovered that China’s abuses against the Uighur peoples include imprisonment in reeducation and concentration camps and forced sterilization. ....

London, United Kingdom – Prominent Jewish figures in the United Kingdom are marking Holocaust Memorial Day by speaking out over China’s treatment of its minority Uighur population, saying they have a “moral duty” to do so.
Held every year on January 27, Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the people systematically killed by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany during World War II – six million Jews, many Roma, the disabled, and others – as well as victims of later genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Darfur. ....
