When members of the labor-organizing nonprofit Workers’ Dignity came together to discuss why it’s so difficult to organize and demand better working conditions in Tennessee, one answer stood out above the rest: Your food and shelter are strongly tied to your job, making it difficult to organize for more rights in the workplace. 
This prompted some members to find a way to achieve some measure of food sovereignty — the right to define their own food and agricultural systems. “There is no tool in the history of policing that’s been used equitably and hasn’t disproportionately impacted people of color,” At-Large Council member Sharon Hurt said.
If the technology is deployed, it would come as Police Chief John Drake has pledged to phase out routine traffic stops. Independent reviews found Nashville traffic stops disproportionately targeted people of color but did not reduce crime rates.
Council member Bob Nash, a former Nashville police commander, said he trusts Drake to implement a program that would be acceptable to the community and council.

More than half of the Metro Council is calling on the Nashville board of health to dismiss the city s health chief following an investigation into claims of sexist and discriminatory behavior. 
Twenty-one council members signed on to a letter Thursday to ask the Metro Board of Health to remove Dr. Michael Caldwell from his position, claiming the recent city investigation is further proof he is not fit to lead.
