The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes in partnership with the Geneva Historical Society, will present the virtual program, “The Shakers in Western New York” by Peter Wisbey on Thursday, May 27 at 7 p.m.
Join Genesee Country Village & Museum curator of collections Peter Wisbey as he discusses the popularity of the United Society of Believers – the Shakers – and their New York communities at Sodus and Groveland. Wisbey will also highlight the dismantling, movement and restoration of the Groveland Trustees’ Building to GCVM in 1987.
Peter Wisbey has been curator of collections for Genesee Country Village & Museum in Mumford for over 14 years. He was previously the executive director of the Seward House in Auburn and held curatorial positions in Massachusetts and New Jersey. ....

The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes in partnership with the Geneva Historical Society, will present the virtual program, “How Nestlé Sweetened Life in Upstate New York” by Central New York historian and author Jim Farfaglia on Thursday, April 22 at 7 pm.
For nearly 100 years, Fulton, New York, was known as the city that smelled like chocolate. As home to Nestlé’s first (and largest) United States factory, it was there that Nestlé Quik and the Crunch Bar were invented, and Toll House Morsels poured off assembly lines. The story of why Nestlé’s Swiss founders chose Fulton for their production is one of our country’s most inspiring success stories. This presentation by the author of a book on Nestlé’s history in Fulton combines research from the company’s archives and interviews with its former workers. ....

The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes in partnership with the Geneva Historical Society will present the virtual program, “Finger Lakes Scenes in 3-D” by Dan Weinstock on Zoom on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
The program will focus on 3-D images called stereoviews. They consist of two nearly identical photographs or prints, paired to produce the illusion of a single three-dimensional image. When viewed through a stereoscope or 3-D glasses, the image becomes a single 3-D image.
This program will provide a brief overview of stereoviews as collectibles and then examine a few of the region’s stereo photographers and their prints. In order to experience the 3D effect, red/cyan glasses will be made available to participants. ....

The City of Geneva’s Public Art Committee is seeking resident feedback on ten proposed “Agents of Change” quotes as part of the City’s upcoming Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Streetscape project.
The selected quotes will be etched into concrete seatwalls located along Castle St. The ten proposed quotes were chosen from an archive of local history documents by students in the 4th and 5th grade at North Street School and college students at Hobart and William Smith colleges in 2017-2018. The collaboration was part of a larger The People’s History of Geneva K-12 Curriculum Project, a multi-year collaboration between Geneva City Schools, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and the Geneva Historical Society.
