Police arrested 48 people over the last 24-hours for failing to wear a mask in a public place within a containment or lockdown zone.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu said the 48 reports made up the majority of the 62 cases recorded for breach of health and curfew restrictions of which the Southern Division recorded 39 arrests.
AC/P Tudravu said 27 people including a 17-year old juvenile were arrested for failing to wear a mask along Grantham Road, Raiwai, Wailea Street and Fletcher Road, Vatuwaqa, Borete and Tiri Road, Nadawa, Qarase Road and Ratu Dovi Road in Nadera and along Narere Road.

He said 27 people, including a 17-year-old juvenile, were arrested for failing to wear a mask along Grantham Road, Raiwai, Wailea Street and Fletcher Road, Vatuwaqa, Borete and Tiri Road, Nadawa, Qarase Road and Ratu Dovi Road in Nadera and along Narere Road.
He said the rest were arrested for social gathering. Five men and two women were arrested from Mead Road, Nabua and in a separate case four men and a juvenile were arrested at Jittu Estate as they were all involved in a drinking party, Tudravu said.

The Central Division recorded 18 arrests which included five women, 12 men and a 16-year old juvenile who were arrested within the Suva City area for failing to wear a mask, he said. The Eastern Division recorded three arrests along the Nakasi Road for failing to wear a mask while the Western Division recorded two reports for breach of curfew.

Forty-three of the 262 new COVID-19 cases recorded yesterday are from new areas of interest.
Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong said the new cases were from Jittu Estate, MV Liahona shipping, Milverton Rd, Natogadravu, Waikete, Nauluvatu Village in Tailevu.
He said 113 cases were from existing areas of interest in this zone.
Dr Fong said five cases were known contacts of cases from the Nawakalevu containment zone that have been undergoing 14-day quarantine in facilities in Nadi.
He said three were contacts from within the existing Korovou cluster, while the remaining 254 cases were from the Lami-Suva-Nausori containment zone.
