Michael S. Elleman, a world-renowned missile expert who spent much of his life trying to stop advances to North Korea’s nuclear program, died of cancer at George Washington University Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 20. He was 62 years old.
A former scientist-turned-U.N.-missile-inspector and analyst, Elleman was known for his gift of explaining North Korea’s complex missile systems to politicians, journalists and countless students and mentees in an approachable way. ....

Japan s government may consider declaring a state of emergency if Covid-19 continues to spread further, a minister in charge of the country s coronavirus response said on Twitter Wednesday.
We have to curb the spread of coronavirus at any cost, Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said in a tweet.
Tokyo recorded 944 new Covid-19 cases for Wednesday the highest daily increase in infections since the pandemic began. The total number of people to have been infected in Tokyo now stands at 58,840, according to the Japanese Health Ministry. ....

Japan records new record high of Covid-19 cases as experts urge public to cancel holiday travel

Japan reported a record 3,268 new coronavirus infections Wednesday, according to the country s Health Ministry.
Wednesday s numbers top the previous record of Dec. 17, when authorities reported 3,208 cases.
Tokyo reported 748 new cases the capital s second-highest number of infections confirmed in a single day, according to the city s metropolitan government.
The Health Ministry also reported 56 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, pushing the country s death toll to 3,063. ....
