The government of Alberta on July 27 announced C$4.7 million in support for Canary Biofuels’ 70 MMly (18.49 MMgy) biorefinery that will convert agriculture waste, inedible animal fats and used cooking oil into biodiesel and glycerin.
The C$4.7 in funding is being sourced from the TIER fund through Emissions Reduction Alberta. The TIER system is funded by industries that pay into the fund when they do not meet emissions targets.
The C$28.6 million dollar facility will be located in Lethbridge County, a region approximately 150 miles southeast of Calgary. The facility is expected to be operational later this year.
Canary Biofuels is expected to purchase more than C$375 million in locally souced feedstock during the plant s first five years of operation, generating approximately C$500 million in revenue and supporting up to 130 jobs. ....

The Lethbridge, Alta. facility will be the first of its kind in Canada and should create roughly 130 jobs.

LETHBRIDGE, ALTA.
The Alberta government is supporting Canary Biofuels, an Alberta-based biofuel producer, with a $4.7M grant through the province s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reductions (TIER) fund.
In total, the facility in Lethbridge County will cost $28.6M and will be capable of producing roughly 70 million litres of renewable fuel each year while cutting more than 220,000 tonnes of emissions.
That reduction in emissions is equivalent to the electricity needed to power 41,000 homes.
Environment and Parks Minister Jason Nixon said the decision to fund a portion of the facility was not only to help the economy, but also the environment.
This facility will be the first of its kind in Canada, with its flagship facility right here in Alberta, ....
