Democrat Richard Touchette was sworn in May 10th to serve the rest of the year in the 37th District.
Touchette, a former Coeymans Town Board member, served on the legislature from 2015 to 2019 before being defeated by Republican George Langdon of Selkirk, who resigned under pressure after making homophobic comments March 27th at an event billed as a Return to Liberty under the Constitution, held at a bible camp in Voorheesville.
Langdon issued an apology afterward, but local lawmakers and LGBTQ advocates rallied in Albany and called on the first-term legislator to step down. ....

Ann Rostow: Slip Slidin’ Away
By Ann Rostow–
The
New York Times, recently called attention to the Roberts Court’s significant shift in favor of Christian litigants. A report on the subject, “The Roberts Court and the Transformation of Constitutional Protections for Religion: A Statistical Portrait,” was just published by Lee Epstein and Eric A. GOP Official Resigns After Homophobic, Hateful Comments

Albany County legislator George Langdon IV thought he would show his Christian love by suggesting gay people be isolated on their own island so they d just die out over time. Langdon made these comments at a conference where the topic at hand was Return to Liberty Under the Constitution. Liberty for Langdon is just another thing for people he hates to lose, apparently.
Everything God does is sustainable. It’s sustainable! It goes on and on and on. It’s perpetual, Langdon argued.
Sorry, when you have homosexual relationships, it’s not perpetual, he continued. Give them an island, they’ll be gone after 40 years. Okay? Because they can’t… ....
