Naomi s husband and sons have just died, and she and her two daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth, are left behind in Moab. The painter captures the crossroads moment when Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem to reunite with her own people. Naomi touches Orpah s hand as Orpah looks away, her head in her hands at the teary farewell. But Ruth clings to Naomi. Her hands are wrapped around Naomi’s neck, and her eyes look up at her mother-in-law with reverence. Naomi places her left arm securely around Ruth. Although the three women s sandaled feet are close together, Ruth’s point toward Naomi while Orpah’s point away. ....

Brief history of the recently closed convenience store on Wightman Road near Harringay Station Posted by Hugh on February 22, 2021 at 12:09 in History of Harringay 7 Wightman Road, run by George Dawes at the time of the photo. Standing in the doorway are George Dawes wife, Eliza, his sons Arthur amd Ernest. Ernest, the younger son, was born in 1905. So, I d guess the date of this photo to be about 1907-08. The absence of George suggests that he may have been the photographer (or was very camera-shy!). I came across the photo above again recently and given the shop s recent demise, I decided to honour its passing by republishing the photo and searching out a bit of the shop s history. (I ve also included the comments and photos published on the two previously published photos). ....
The Most Tragic Deaths In The British Royal Family John Mathew Smith Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown, wrote Shakespeare in Henry IV, Part II, but you don t even have to be wearing the crown to be at risk of losing your head. Just being a little too close to inheriting it can be enough to get you killed prematurely. Being part of the British royal family isn t all jewels, palaces, and waving from fancy cars, and it won t protect you from a fatal illness or a sharp sword or an arrow in the eye. While some kings have killed their way to the crown, others have paved the way for someone else by dying unexpectedly. Deaths in the British royal family affect the victim s relatives, send a wave of grief and sometimes relief through the nation, and occasionally change the course of history. Featuring betrayals, beheadings, and lots of people with the same names, these are the most tragic deaths in the British royal family. ....
