Why Greylock Partners and Baillie Gifford Invested in Nuro

Nuro
Insider asked three self-driving startup Nuro investors why they took a stake in the startup.
They said Nuro was smart to focus only on autonomous deliveries.
Nuro, they said, has also made rapid progress on its technology and business plan.
With a growing war chest and an enviable collection of blue-chip partners, Nuro is one of the hottest startups in the autonomous-vehicle industry.
Founded by two early members of Google s autonomous-vehicle project (which has since spun out as Waymo), the startup is developing self-driving delivery vehicles. Nuro aims to one day eliminate delivery fees while offering a wide range of products, including food, groceries, and prescriptions. ....

YURI KAGEYAMA | Associated Press
TOKYO – Toyota Motor Corp. has acquired the self-driving division of American ride-hailing company Lyft for $550 million, in a move that highlights the Japanese automaker s ambitions in that tech.
The acquisition, announced Tuesday, was carried out by Woven Planet Holdings, a Toyota subsidiary that began business in January and focuses on innovations and investment in projects such as “smart cities,” robotics and automated driving.

Lyft Sells Autonomous Unit to Toyota's Woven Planet

Lyft
Lyft is selling its autonomous business unit to Toyota s Woven Planet, which is a research and investment arm focusing on smart cities and connected cars.

Uber recently sold its autonomous research unit as well, signaling that self-driving cars are further in the future than hoped.
Just months after Uber parted with its ATG self-driving business unit, Lyft is doing the same, selling its autonomous vehicle research division named Level 5 to Toyota subsidiary Woven Planet.
