In May this year, Australian Aviation published a story that became the biggest in our 40-year history, attracting a mind-boggling 80,000 views. It involved a TikTok user, Ashley Hall, who obtained footage from inside a Qantas 747 stored at a boneyard in the Californian desert. What she likely didn’t realise – that we were able to deduce from some nifty FlightAware research – was that the 747-400 in question had been sweltering in the desert, innards intact, for more than eight years.
Perhaps the reason the story did so well, I think now, was because aviation enthusiasts have a propensity to see what others consider as simply hulks of metal as something a bit more alive. Much like the Toys in ....

Jerry Lewis the longtime Southern California Republican who served the High Desert and other locales for more than four decades in increasingly influential roles, and who chaired the House Appropriations Committee in the mid-2000s has died. He was 86.
Lewis’ brother, John, told the Daily Press that Jerry Lewis died at his home in Redlands. The late politician’s housekeeper found him on the floor of his bedroom sometime after 10 a.m. Thursday, John Lewis said. The official cause of death is not yet known. ....

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) Don Harrie has found a hobby he loves.
The Grand Island man presents people with an attractive artificial leaf, mounted on a wooden base. He calls each a leaf of love and happiness. His wife, Judy, writes the first name of the recipient on the round bases, which are normally used as wheels for wooden toys.
Harrie has given away 493 of the leaves, 175 of them to fellow veterans.
He started out giving the leaves to veterans. He liked the reaction he received. “And it just grew and grew,” he said. ....
