Nick Wong has been promoted to executive chef of UB Preserv.
With newÂ restaurants on the way, Underbelly Hospitality announced on Tuesday some major changes to its internal structure. Namely, chef/owner Chris ShepherdÂ has shiftedÂ from the executive chef role at his restaurants,Â though he will consult with each chef on his menu.
The company is growing, and this has been the plan all along,â Shepherd said in a press release. My job now is to support the next generation of restaurant leaders. Each of these people have shown integrity, compassion, skill and empathy and have worked through so many challenges this year. I can t wait to see what they ll accomplish next. ....

Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1024 into law on Wednesday, May 12. It permanently allows beer, wine, and mixed drinks to be included in pickup and delivery food orders.

Covid-19 dominated everything in 2020, from the way we lived (mostly at home) to how we ate (again, mostly at home). In Houston it significantly altered the restaurant industry, with more than 100,000 workers temporarily finding themselves out of work during the year, according to the Greater Houston Restaurant Association. Restaurants closed for weeks, and in some cases permanently, chefs and workers found themselves out of jobs, and a city known for how much its residents go out to eat retreated. ....

It is Thursday, February 18th. As I type, snowflakes fall in Austin, TX. This is the sixth consecutive day that temperature highs have not risen above freezing. We’re in the midst of record-setting frigid temperatures and a winter storm coating the area first with a layer of ice, followed by six inches of snow, and then again sheathed in inches of ice. The storm has introduced many difficulties to Texas this week.
Power outages. No heat. No phone service. Water outages and shortages. Frozen and burst water pipes flooding homes. COLD! These some of the many problems that we are dealing with over this last week in Texas. ....
