Neither House Bill 82 (implementation requirements for medical marijuana) nor HB 209 (regulation of marijuana) were considered by the state House of Representatives’ Committee of the Whole. Richard Jones of Bottle Tree Behavioral provided details of both bills Thursday morning on KODI’s “Speak Your Piece with Darian Dudrick.” Jones said the approximately 100-page HB 209 would’ve “fully legalized marijuana.” He added that interestingly, Cheyenne Republican Rep. Jared Olsen – the bill’s sponsor – received campaign contributions last fall from tobacco company Altria, which has invested $1.8 billion in recreational cannabis. ....

For years Iâve heard people say Wyoming lawmakers will never legalize marijuana, and if they do, weâll be the last state to go down that road. Iâve generally agreed with that sentiment, primarily because voters who say they want the government to stay out of their lives keep electing legislators intent on doing the opposite. They pass laws taking away womenâs reproductive freedom, sponsor anti-LGBTQ bills and zealously work to restrict peopleâs right to vote. To think that a majority of this bunch would let Wyomingites smoke a joint in the privacy of their homes seems like a fantasy. A âdevilâs weedâ mentality has dominated the Legislature for as long as I can remember. Iâve listened to hours of testimony about how marijuana is a gateway drug, just as dangerous as heroin and the scourge of a decent society. ....
