An Indiana State Trooper was hit while investigating a crash Sunday morning near Hammond, Indiana. He is the third ISP trooper struck over the past three weeks.
About 4:10 a.m., troopers from the ISP Lowell Post were investigating a crash on I-80/94 eastbound at the 1.7 mile-marker, according to a statement from state police.
Trooper Jarah Burgin was standing outside his police vehicle when a 2007 Buick disregarding about 30 flares struck his 2020 Dodge Charger, state police said.
The Buick struck Burgin, sending him up into the air before hitting the windshield of the vehicle when the driver eventually stopped, state police said.

HAMMOND, Ind. For the third time in three weeks, another Indiana State Trooper has been hit by a car.
State Police say it happened around 4 Sunday morning along Interstate-80. State Trooper Jarah Burgin responded to a crash, and blocked off several lanes with dozens of flares, and had the help of other squad cars. But it wasn’t enough.
Jennifer Spikes of Gary drove her car through the flares and past other squad cars, hitting Burgin’s squad car and Burgin himself. The impact sent him crashing into the windshield of Spikes’ car.

HAMMOND, Ind. An Indiana State trooper is recovering after being struck by a vehicle Sunday morning in northwestern Indiana while investigating a crash on an interstate.
Police were called to investigate a multiple vehicle crash on I-80/94 eastbound at the 1.7 mile-marker in Hammond, Indiana.
Police said the right three lanes were blocked as a result of the crash, and Trooper Jarah Burgin parked his fully marked police car behind the disabled vehicle with its emergency lights activated. Police spread out 30 flares on the roadway to block the lanes.
