Some details:
‘CARMEN’
Recorded at Detroit’s Jam Handy building, this “Carmen” takes what is traditionally a large and grand opera and recasts it in an intimate space with a chamber ensemble. But that’s not the only reinterpretation happening to Georges Bizet’s beloved tale of the freewheeling gypsy of the title. Instead of the traditional setting 19th Century Spain, Carmen s doomed romance plays out amidst an environment not unlike the Netflix prison-based series “Orange Is The New Black.”
‘A CAPACITY FOR EVIL’
This Opera MODO world premiere was recorded at Ant Hall in Hamtramck and was inspired by the tradition of Sherlock Holmes. The detective tale follows Daniel, a famed 1930s private eye, who, with help from his partner Doyle and his fiancée Angelica, works to unravel a series of grisly religious murders occurring on New Year’s Eve. As tensions rise and time runs short, the bonds between the three friends are tested.
