A former swim coach at St. Johns Country Day School was arrested Monday on multiple felony charges. According to a press release, in April 2021, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children and Forensics Unit conducted an extensive investigation involving a child being exploited online. During the investigation, deputies say evidence revealed Mitchell Bentz, 24, solicited a 17-year-old online for unlawful sexual conduct. Bentz further sent several lewd images to the child victim. It is unclear if the child was a swimmer or student of St. Johns Country Day School. ....
Brunswick firefighters continue to fight massive warehouse fire from Sunday night Alicia Tarancon Carolyn Macon lives on Newcastle Road in Brunswick and on Sunday she saw flames erupting from that warehouse which faces her backyard. “I heard the boom. It was like ‘boom, boom’ and my house shook and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Lord this is happening again.’ And then I heard all the sirens and then I ran to the door,” Macon said. Police pounded on her door to leave because of how close the fire was to her home. “And we did get out and came back at 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. And it was really on and popping,” Macon said. ....
