Saxton receives bids for roof fix

After several years of discussing and debating what to do about a sagging borough building roof, Saxton Borough Council announced this week that two bids to replace the roof have been received. Council President Lester Meck told members that two separate contractors came to the borough and inspected the body of the roof, which covers the borough office and space once occupied by the Broad Top Senior Citizens Center that eventually moved out of the building. Meck did not wish to publicly disclose the name of the bidders or the bid amounts due to a possible misunderstanding on the part of one of the bidders as to the scope of the entire project.

Illegal gambling machines seized

MEDIA — Thirteen illegal gambling machines were removed from two mini-marts in East Lansdowne and Clifton Heights following an undercover investigation in November, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer announced Wednesday. “Unauthorized gaming machines have proliferated in convenience stores, pizza parlors, and laundromats throughout the commonwealth,” Stollsteimer said in a release. “Due to inaction in Harrisburg, these devices are currently unregulated, with no oversight to determine if the machines are operating fairly and no prohibition on minors playing the games. As district attorney, I am committed to supporting law enforcement in its effort to protect Pennsylvanians from the harms associated with illegal gambling.”
