Palmdale abuse case: Family, community members remember Gabriel Fernandez on what would've been his 16th birthday

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) Family and community members gathered in Palmdale to celebrate the life of Gabriel Fernandez, the boy who was tortured and killed by his mother and her boyfriend, on what would ve been his 16th birthday.
On Saturday, flowers were piled up alongside birthday balloons at the tree outside his Palmdale apartment that was named after him.
We came to celebrate Gabriel s life. So many people talk about his death, but we are here to celebrate his life and what Gabriel has done for everybody, said deputy district attorney Jon Hatami. I can say, for me personally, he s made me a better prosecutor, a better father. ....

Gascon has not only raised the ire of the Deputy District Attorneys in his office, but of District Attorneys in other counties across the State. Gascon’s “Special Directives” are being disregarded by local and regional law enforcement, and the liberal-leaning District Attorneys Union has filed a restraining order against him.

A Los Angeles County deputy district attorney filed a defamation and racial discrimination lawsuit against his boss, District Attorney George Gascón, in response to comments made by the elected official in television interviews.
Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami, a Santa Clarita resident, alleged both Gascón and his spokesman, Max Szabo, published defamatory language about Hatami and discriminated against him for his Iranian heritage.
When asked for comment in response to the suit Wednesday, Gascón’s office said it would be “unable to comment on personnel matters and on potential pending litigation.”
“‘Some people will be unhappy and either become internal terrorists or they’ll leave,’” Gascón said in a podcast interview recorded in February 2020, which was cited in the complaint.
