MACC announces call to artists for the Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2022

KAHULUI The Maui Arts & Cultural Center last week announced the rescheduled dates for application and jurying for its signature triennial exhibition, Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2022 (SPC22).
The exhibit was postponed from 2021 due to COVID-19. Exhibition dates for the Schaefer Portrait Challenge will be Jan. 11 to March 20, 2022 at the MACC’s Schaefer International Gallery.
Artists interested in participating in SPC 2022 are encouraged to access the “Call to Artists” prospectus and application, which is viewable/downloadable on the MACC’s website at https://mauiarts.org/spc2022.php .
The jurors for SPC22 will be Carl Jennings, associate professor, Arts and Humanities at Kapiolani Community College; Codie King, director, Wailoa Center; and Jan Sato, Baldwin High School art teacher. ....

Veteran whose story went viral receives thank you cards

John Sato s mission to make it to the march made headlines across the world, after the RNZ story about him went viral.
RNZ recently received cards from the United States for the 96-year-old, and delivered them to him at his Auckland home.
One card from Mary Wong of California said: Thank you for showing me that there is still kindness, compassion and dignity in the world.Thank you for being such a good person. Please know that you are thought of in respect and honor .
Another card from Nazrin, who didn t want her full name used, said: I want to thank you with all my heart for being a great example to the world showing love, kindness and true strength reflecting your character. I pray almighty alah continues to shower you with love and blessings . ....
