East Lothian Courier . Drink has been blamed for a near riot by Tranent teenagers after a junior disco at the Loch Centre had to be stopped. Now steps are to be taken to increase security and make sure youngsters on drink or drugs are kept out of discos. The decision was taken after police reported that the majority of children involved in the February 9 disturbance had been drinking before they rampaged through the streets of Tranent, causing £2,000 worth of damage, when the disco was cancelled after fighting broke out. Community PC John Penman was the first officer on the scene and told councillors at Tuesday’s community council meeting that he could smell drink from teenagers who were causing trouble. ....
A FLINTSHIRE PE teacher who has been running virtual fitness sessions for staff during lockdown has launched a month-long initiative to encourage students to get outside and experience the benefits of exercise on their physical and mental wellbeing. Lois Hough, who joined Holywell’s Ysgol Treffynnon in October, came up with the challenge called ‘Walk A Mile A Day Every Day in February’ as something that everyone could take part in. The idea is for students and staff to walk, cycle or run a mile a day and record a video while doing their exercise. The initiative is already proving highly popular with positive feedback from students and, to help motivate students to keep up the good work, Lois created a tick chart for them to log their activity for each day of the month. The chart also highlights the advantages of regular exercise, from improving lung capacity and concentration to helping improve mood. ....
