Robert Stock took the mound for the first time in the orange and blue, and fared much better than he did against the orange and blue last month. He tossed four solid innings, allowing 2 runs on four hits and two walks, with five strikeouts. His only real blemish was a two-run homer allowed to Manny Piña in the second inning. Unfortunately, the Mets offense couldn’t back him up at all, getting shut down by Brett Anderson over four innings. They managed just three hits all game, all against Anderson. The Mets finally got something going in the fifth, when they loaded the bases with nobody out after three straight walks, but Brad Boxberger struck out 3 in a row to extricate the jam. ....

The opportunity to sweep the series and push the Yankees below .500 would slip through the Mets’ fingers, however. The offense that put up 18 runs over the first two games of the series started slowly against Nestor Cortes. Meanwhile, the Yankees struck quickly in the second inning, with Gio Urshela putting a three run home run into the short porch in right to stake the Yankees to a 3-0 lead. ....
