Georgetown University Uses Low-Carbon Concrete in New Residence Hall Construction
The first major construction project for the Washington D.C. area to use ECOPact low-carbon concrete from Aggregate industries is a Georgetown University Residence Hall, construction to complete 2022.

Georgetown University’s 55 H Street is a new 12-story residential building currently under construction in downtown Washington, D.C. Approximately 7,000 cubic yards of ECOPact low-carbon concrete will be used for the project’s post-tensioned concrete slabs and other components. ECOPact will greatly reduce embodied carbon of the concrete when compared to concrete containing ordinary Portland cement (OPC).

Aggregate Industries, a member of LafargeHolcim in the US, has announced that Washington D.C.’s first major construction project to use its new low-carbon concrete mix will reduce embodied carbon of concrete by 40% and contribute to its goal of exceeding LEED V4 Platinum status.

ECOPact was introduced by LafargeHolcim in 2020 as the industry’s broadest range of low-carbon concrete for high-performing, sustainable and circular construction. JMF, which was established in 2012 and is the longest-running and most successful Indigenous football program in Australia, has been recognised for their work in meeting Closing the Gap targets.
The organisation could also hold the key to more Indigenous young players making it through to our national teams.
The initiative addresses 11 of the 16 Closing the Gap targets and is life-changing for more than 1,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and boys aged 2 to 16 years of age at a cost of just $1,300 per child per year.
It also provides local Aboriginal jobs, with almost two-thirds of the 40 coaching and administrative staff being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and all receiving wide-ranging professional development, including in first aid, safe food handling, mental health and becoming licensed coaches. ....
