North East Link: Victorian government's favoured bidder proposes longer tunnels on Melbourne road project

Advertisement Victoria’s longest road tunnels, to be built as part of the $15.8 billion North East Link, would be extended even further under a private sector bid that has been favoured by the Andrews government. The Andrews and Morrison governments, which are co-funding the project linking the Metropolitan Ring Road to the Eastern Freesay, have announced their preferred consortium to negotiate the $7-$9 billion contract to build tunnels beneath the Yarra River and Banyule Flats, and interchanges at Manningham Road and Lower Plenty Road in Melbourne’s north-east. The Spark consortium, led by Milan-based WeBuild (formerly Salini Impregilo), submitted a bid that pitched extending the project’s twin three-lane tunnels, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the bid who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

MDOT Secretary's Office To Hear Appeal By Consortium Whose I-495/I-270 Bid Fell Short

Reply May 3, 2021 A consortium that bid unsuccessfully on a lucrative state highway project has signaled it intends to press its case against the Maryland Department of Transportation. Subscribe Capital Express Mobility Partners (CEMP) protested the agency s decision to award the multi-billion dollar I-495/I-270 project to a rival, Accelerate Maryland Partners, in March. That protest was denied after MDOT s contracting officer upheld the agency s process for evaluating the three bids it received. Subscribe On Monday, the agency announced that CEMP has formally appealed that decision to Maryland Transportation Secretary Greg Slater. The move has potentially significant implications for Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. s top transportation priority, the widening of portions of the two frequently-congested highways and the replacement of the aging American Legion Bridge.
