Everton have completed the acquisition of Andros Townsend on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, the first signing of Rafael Benitez s tenure as the Blues manager.
The 30-year-old winger agreed a two-year contract that would run through the end of June 2023, bringing to an end a five-year spell at Selhurst Park while renewing his association with Benitez who managed him briefly at Newcastle United in 2016.
Townsend explained that reuniting with his old boss and the prospect of playing for a “massive and ambitious” club like Everton meant that he could not turn down the chance to sign when it came up. ....

Time To Move On

I don’t think many people will like this article, or agree with it. You might hate me for it. Time to move on means what it says – and it’s what I’ll be doing.
Like many ToffeeWebbers, I have been supporting Everton since I was a youngster. When I was 7 years old, my family moved to Liverpool, though I was already a confirmed Blue by then thanks to my Dad, who had previously lived in Liverpool from 1958 to 1966.
My Dad likes to tell the story of how he came to Liverpool as a young man (from Belfast) and went to watch Liverpool one week and then went to watch Everton the next and sensibly chose the latter. He said Liverpool just didn’t feel right, plus they were in the Second Division and shite, which made the decision even easier. ....

Farhad s come up with another one, hasn t he? Like a gambler on a long losing streak, big-priced bets followed by odds-on shots, with one thing in common: torn-up betting slips.
To be fair to Moshiri, most gamblers keep swinging until things change, but that s often because their strategy works in the long run. Farhad is clearly a patient man. without an apparent strategy.
I didn t have a strong view on the candidates. I don t know enough about most of them to have a strong view and, frankly, I m punch drunk after so many managers in recent times. This appointment is right out of left field. Let s try and explore the workings of Moshiri s mind. ....

From Birkenhead to El Ballet Azul: The Billy Higgins Story

From Birkenhead to El Ballet Azul: The Billy Higgins Story
Everton’s return to the USA for summer fixtures, after a gap of eight years, offers an intriguing link to the past. One of the Toffees’ opponents will be the Millonarios club of Bogotá, which, 71 years ago, was at the epicentre of a storm over footballers being lured from British clubs to a so-called ‘renegade league’. Everton was one of several clubs caught up in the affair, as players were sounded out about crossing the Atlantic in search of a more prosperous future.
Here is some context to the sensational turn of events. In the immediate post-war era, footballers with English Football League clubs were on a maximum wage of £12 per week. There with some moderate bonuses and long service was rewarded with periodic ‘benefit cheques’. Although well-paid, compared to the typical blue-collar worker, these men - at their playing peak - were far from rich and fully expected to be out of the game by their ....
