Mardi Gras float, figureheads can be seen at Cannata's

Cannata’s has partnered with a local float rental business to bring a small slice of Mardi Gras to Houma.
Now through Feb. 16, families are invited to get up close and personal with eight giant figures from floats that usually roll during Carnival parades at Cannata s supermarket, 6289 W Park Ave. in Houma.
You can also sample Cannata’s award-winning king cakes and vote on your favorite over the next two weekends. There’s also a Facebook photo contest with a chance to win king cakes or a Mardi Gras gift pack.
“We’ve moved these larger-than-life characters to our parking lot for a celebration we call ‘Carnival at the Bakery,’ ” said Vince Cannata, president of Cannata’s Family Markets. “Anyone who visits our lot can get a great share of Carnival sights and sounds. It’s all free, and it’s all because we want to preserve and promote the family-oriented spirit of our community’s long-standing traditions.” ....

Terrebonne Carnival krewes set plan to possibly roll in April

Terrebonne Parish Mardi Gras krewes have created a plan to hold parades in April if allowed contingent upon where the parish is at in regard to COVID-19 prior to rolling.
The schedule was laid out yesterday at a meeting with the presidents of the local clubs who were joined by Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet and Terrebonne Parish Public Safety Director Steve Ponville.

According to John Poiencot, President of the Krewe of Terreanians, three weekends in April were chosen for parades to be conducted, starting with the weekend of April 9. The first weekend Hercules, Aquarius, Titans and Hyacinthians would roll, he said, and the following weekend would be set for the Krewe of Mardi Gras, Aphrodite and Terreanians. He said the last weekend would be reserved for the usual Monday and Tuesday Houma parades and the Montegut and Chauvin parades. ....
