JOHNSTOWN Fulton County officials took action Monday on two issues involving demolition of properties in the city of Gloversville.
The Board of Supervisors’ Public Works Committee on Monday handled the matters at the County Office Building.
County Solid Waste Director David Rhodes brought before the committee a proposed resolution referring a home at 1 Oakland Ave., Gloversville, to the Fulton County Demolition Team to be razed per Operation Green Scene. The resolution passed, and was passed on to the full board for final action May 10. ....

FULTON COUNTY The Fulton County Republican Committee announced 45 candidates for county, town and city elections Friday, including District Attorney Chad Brown for county judge and surrogate and Scott Jeffers for city of Johnstown mayor.
Fulton County Republican Chairwoman Sue McNeil introduced the candidates at a rally in front of the county’s historic courthouse building in Johnstown. Despite frigid temperatures in the teens and nearly everyone in attendance wearing masks due to the coronavirus pandemic, the rally was well-attended by approximately 50 people, a good portion of whom were current or former elected officials. ....

As COVID-19 vaccine distribution continues, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) currently recognizes three dominant variants of the virus found in the United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa.
All viruses genetically mutate themselves as they find new hosts in order to stay alive. These mutations can be so small they are undetectable, or large enough for scientists to realize they are different. Those “different” viruses may be able to spread faster, which is one of the reasons they are labelled as dominant variants. Either way, mutations exist because any virus needs to continually mutate to survive, some mutated forms are just stronger or more easily transferable than others. ....
