ONE of the great characters of British boxing, Jim Evans – trainer, manager, promoter and top class amateur boxer – is not well at the moment.
Eighty-five years old, dignified and hugely respected, Jim’s is a life lived in boxing.
Mainly recognised in recent years as a great trainer and manager, Jim was also a top class amateur boxer. He had 246 fights and only lost about 30 times. Most of these were for the Army and he later boxed for St Pancras. Furthermore, Jim only lost three out of 55 as a junior, in what was a very tough era. ....

Special taxing district idea, shelved in April, may be back on table
SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County commissioners may be taking a bold step in 2021 to address disparities in local mental health funding, potentially resurrecting the idea of a public referendum that could create a mental health taxing district to fund treatment.
The proposed district, if approved by commissioners and subsequently passed by voters, would be used to levy taxes to provide funding for mental health services.
While pro-business groups have opposed the idea, the county has seen strong support from civic leaders and the general public. ....

VENICE – The pathway to clean water and a healthy Sarasota Bay ecosystem may be found in a water quality playbook released online Thursday morning by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
