JOHNSON CITY - Mrs. Leah Miller Chapin, of Johnson City, TN passed away on May 25, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center at the age of 81. Leah was born and raised in Kingsport, TN. She had a creative spirit and a love for big city living. After living in Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., West Palm Beach and Wellington, Florida she eventually made her way back to East Tennessee to retire in Johnson City, TN. Leah graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1958 where she was a majorette. As a young adult, she had a deep love for horses and was an avid equestrian. She was a smart and driven young woman. In her early career days, she worked her way up to CEO of Adcom Paper and later made herself a successful career as a real estate agent in Johnson City, TN. ....
Community center proposed to New London Council Ellen Simmons Special to the Ashland Times-Gazette NEW LONDON Pastor Doug Lang from the New London Alliance Church and church member Matt Pickens presented council Monday with a proposal for a community center. It would be built on 6.6 acres on three parcels in the middle of town between East Main Street and Park Avenue. The village owns 3.383 of these acres and the other two pieces are owned by the United Methodist Church and the school. The area was the location of the old school, which was demolished around 20 years ago. The men said this center is only in the planning stage and they are just starting discussions with the land owners to see if the idea is feasible. They originally planned to use 10 acres they own across from the church for a center, but would prefer to have it near downtown where it would be accessible to as many people as possible. ....
The operation requires a section of I-26 West to be closed from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) to U.S. 25 (Exit 44) starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday and 9 p.m. on Friday. A single lane closure for eastbound traffic may accompany the operation at times. Drivers will be detoured in Hendersonville at U.S. 64 (Exit 49B) and directed west to U.S. 25 (Asheville Highway) where they may rejoin I-26 at Exit 44. Detoured traffic will be incorporated into the Integrated Corridor Management system, a signal-timing program that provides longer green lights on the route. NCDOT officials have successfully utilized the new system several times this spring. ....
