Cows and Hardware Disease: Using Magnets for Nails in the Gut

One great benefit of cows is their resilience rugged, and uncomplaining. But even cows have their Achilles heels; or, in this case, an Achilles rumen. It is easy for such big eaters to ingest rusted metal or old tacks in feed or just milling around munching on old shingles or whatever they find to sample.
This is called “Hardware Disease” (or, traumatic reticuloperitonitis) and can become very serious in both beef and dairy cows. Some farmers routinely deposit one or two “cow magnets” in all their cows, where they will remain their entire lives as precautionary prophylactics,  More often, a farmer will see the signs kicking the belly, an arched back or uneasy gait,  laying down and getting up in discomfort, a drop in feed consumption or milk production.  ....

Silence will be the next hate crime

(Natural News)
Attacking so-called “hate speech” has proven an effective Trojan horse technique by BLM and Antifa social justice warriors, who have incorporated Critical Race Theory (CRT) into their pernicious plans to dismantle the Constitution.  After all, who wants to defend hate speech?  But connecting the jurisprudential dots reveals that the whiter-than-snow “cause” of inner-city black suffering is the battering ram to bypass the very liberties that nurtured the abolitionist and Civil Rights movements.  Might this chaos extend even to the point of criminalizing
silence as hate speech?
CRT does not hide its plans.  Quoting Audre Lorde, BLM brazenly declares: ....

Look Ahead, Vermont: Fracture looms in Vermont GOP over Trump

More than a few Vermonters have asked over the past four years: Why is Gov. Phil Scott still a Republican?
That question — and, between the lines, a bigger question about what it means to be part of the Grand Old Party in Vermont — was asked out loud on Friday.
Going back to the 2016 campaign, Scott has made no secret of his distaste for Republican President Donald Trump, criticizing him openly despite the potential ramifications.
Scott was among the first Republican governors to say after Trump’s first impeachment that he should have been convicted and removed from office. He strongly condemned Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. And, unlike many GOP members of Congress, and notably, some leaders within the Vermont GOP, Scott declared that Joe Biden had, indeed, won the presidential election and ought to resign or be removed. ....

Column | Grand Old Parting? Riot at U.S. Capitol Exposes Rifts in the VTGOP

The rift has been evident for decades. Former Republican governor
Jim Douglas traces the split all the way back to the fight between the conservative Proctor wing of the party and the moderate Gibson-Aiken faction, in the days when Vermont Democrats were so scarce that GOP politics were just about the only politics around. In the 1946 primary, moderate
Ernest W. Gibson Jr. beat incumbent Republican governor
Mortimer Proctor in a hard-fought race then went on to beat the Democrat with 80 percent of the vote.
Vermont Republicans have had a successful history, especially since the rise of a strong Democratic opposition in the 1960s, of papering over these divisions, which perhaps gives evidence they could do so again.  ....

Look Ahead, Vermont: Town Meeting bill up first as session gets going

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.
MONTPELIER — Now that leaders are sworn in, speeches have been made and committees have been assigned, Vermont’s state government can really roll up its sleeves and get to work.
First and foremost on the list is a Town Meeting bill that will allow Vermont communities to hold the event safely, or potentially reschedule it.
Members of the state House and Senate Government Operations committees have already been working on H. 48. The bill assures towns will be able to move the date of their town meeting, mail ballots to all registered voters, and allow the Secretary of State’s office to “order or permit supplemental elections procedures related to these 2021 annual municipal meeting provisions.” ....
