No Excuses: More Vaccines Available for 12 Years Old and Up
The addition of 12 to 15 year olds being able to get the COVID-19 vaccine, and the recent mask relief for people who have been vaccinated has increased traffic at local vaccination centers.
There has definitely been an increase in people lining up for the shot at the state-run site at SUNY POLY in Marcy, according to people who visited the location this past weekend. It s believed the shed the mask incentive, and the fact that 12 to 15 year olds can now get the Pfizer vaccine are the reasons for the increased traffic. ....

AHDC Splits To Verruso, Schullstrom | Standardbred Canada

Two trotting divisions of the American Harness Drivers Club Series went to post today (May 15) at Freehold Raceway and when the judges deemed each race official Tony Verruso and Mark Shullstrom each won their respective $9,000 divisions; Verruso with Slated To Win in 1:58 and Schullsrom with Inukchuk Chuck in 2:00.1.
In the first split Verruso sent Slated To Win to the lead from post two and they led the competition through the first stanza in :28.4. Despite being challenged Verruso was comfortable as he passed the half in :58.
Ooh Rah (John Calabrese) was the first to move off the pylons but he ran into road trouble behind some stalled trotters as the field headed for the three quarters. At the top of the lane Slated To Win was comfortable and was able to rebuff a late charge from Always A Good Time (Joe Faraldo) before bracing for Southwind Frost (Bob Hechkoff) who was enjoying a two-hole journey. In the stretch Slated To Win and Southwind Frost were heads apart all the ....

Hechkoff Takes AHDC Trot At Freehold | Standardbred Canada

Bob Hechkoff took no prisoners and sent Southwind Frost down the road for a 1:58.4 victory in the American Harness Drivers Club trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday (May 8) and in doing so kept his main competition out in the fresh air.
Hechkoff grabbed command when the gate sprung and then played hardball, keeping John Calabrese and Ooh Rah parked all the way, and the overland route took its toll. When they trotted side-by-side past the half Ooh Rah was all-in.
Up the backside Southwind Frost opened daylight on his competition, and when he trotted by the three quarters he was 3-1/2 lengths ahead of Masster Blue (Tony Verruso) who was second along the pylons the entire way. Southwind Frost held command all the way to the wire, with Masster Blue finishing second. Third place went to French Moni, driven by Paul Minore. ....

The US Is Wary of China's Military Plans in Africa

YouTube/CGTN
The top US commander in Africa recently said China s new naval pier in Djibouti could support an aircraft carrier.
China s peacekeeping deployments in Africa are seen as a potential excuse to build up its military presence on the continent.
With a population of under 1 million, Djibouti on the Horn of Africa is one of the smallest countries on the continent.
But what it lacks in size, it makes up for with its strategic location, overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a choke point between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
It is that location that has made it a hub for foreign militaries. Before 2017, the United States, France, Japan and Italy had established bases for their armed forces in the country. Then China arrived, setting up what it described as a logistics facility for resupplying Chinese vessels on peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. ....
