KJ Morrisâ reunion with her father wasnât quite what she expected.
When Nye Health Services announced in January it would close Legacy Lodge, its assisted living center in Rafter J, Morris was one of the first to find a new placement. Within a couple of weeks she had arranged a room at The Homestead, a facility in Rexburg, Idaho.
Morrisâ father, Dave Schipper, had lived at Legacy Lodge since August, and because of the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns and restrictions she hadnât been able to visit. When she was allowed into the building to help Schipper move, she said, âit was the first time I touched my dad since August.â
âShe would take her walker up and down the halls, which was hysterical,â Emily said.
Even the pandemic didnât stop them. The Janaks swung by all summer, enjoying socially distanced visits in the courtyard, and they sledded down the hill behind Legacy Lodge once winter gripped Jackson Hole. Theyâd talk to Jim through his window when outdoor hangouts werenât possible.
Because of his Parkinsonâs disease, Jim canât live by himself, though he is relatively independent. Having him just down the road in a place where the family was confident he would be taken care of was exactly what they needed.
