In mid 18th-century Ireland, Edward Synge, the Bishop of Elphin, spent a lot of time thinking about dishes. He needed dishes for two homes and he knew exactly what he wanted in terms of both design and function. One of these houses was a grand Bishop s Palace at his diocese in Elphin, Co Roscommon, and the other was a townhouse in Dublin.
Synge spent part of each year in Elphin and, from there he sent regular letters to his daughter, Alicia. She and her governess, a Mrs Jourdan, stayed in Dublin where they received constant enquiries, instructions and advice from the bishop. The bishop valued Mrs. Jourdan’s opinions and he frequently told Alicia to ask Mrs. Jourdan to act for him in domestic matters.

Grant Broadcasters-owned Power FM Ballarat has announced a new breakfast show with Josh Arthur is teaming up with Maddie Jarosz.

Ballarat’s Power FM has announced a brand-new Breakfast show for 2021. Current Power FM day announcer Josh Arthur is teaming up with Maddie Jarosz, who has just moved from Magic 93.1 Riverland S.A. Maddie replaces Julia ‘Jules’ Zass, who is currently on maternity leave and has just given birth to a bouncing baby girl. Josh replaces Kris Kroemer who is heading off to launch his own local coffee business.

Windermere Town Council members have approved two guaranteed maximum-price contracts for the new town facilities and public works shed area.
Both contracts discussed during the Town Council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 12, set a limit that the town will have to pay its contractor or subcontractor regardless of the actual costs incurred. A guaranteed maximum-price contract puts a cap on the contract price. Any costs that go beyond the guaranteed maximum may need to be covered by the contractor or subcontractor.
