Dublin GAA’s dramatic announcement on Thursday evening that they were suspending manager Dessie Farrell for 12 weeks will go a long way to defusing the controversy caused by the county’s breach of Covid regulations in training at the Inisfails’ ground in north Dublin. It is likely, however, that the association’s management committee will launch an investigation into the affair but indications are that none of the nine players involved will be suspended. Dublin though are probably going to be stripped of home advantage for one of their matches in the coming league season. ....
The GAA and the Gardai are investigating reports of a training session involving members of the Dublin senior football panel. A Garda statement released this afternoon says that if breaches of public health regulations are identified a Fixed Payment Notice may be issued. The GAA has expressed frustration and extreme disappointment after footballer of the year Brian Fenton, Jonny Cooper and Brian Howard were among players photographed by the Irish Independent training at the Innisfails GAA club in north Dublin. Inter-county training is banned until April 19th under Government protocols and the GAA say they will pursue the allegations. In a statement issued by Croke Park, a spokesperson on behalf of the organisation said: It is with frustration and extreme disappointment that the GAA acknowledges reports today of a potential breach of both our own Covid guidelines and those of the Government relating to the restrictions in place around team training. The statement comes after a group of players from the Dublin senior football squad were photographed taking part in a secret dawn training session yesterday at Innisfails GAA Club. Just 12 hours before the training session, Croke Park issued a circular to all clubs and counties, warning that any breaches of the current ban on collective training could put the GAA s overall plans for a return in serious jeopardy . ....
