JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ground was broken Tuesday for a potentially $600 million development on Jacksonville’s Southbank that was 12 years in the making. In addition to dignitaries turning earth with ceremonial shovels, the project that was first known as “Health Town, more recently “The District,” it was officially renamed “Rivers Edge, Life on the St. Johns.”
Preston Hollow Capital, based out of Dallas, is developing 32-acres next to the Duval County School Board building where the JEA’s Southside Generating Station used to be located. The riverfront site will be turned into 950 apartments, townhouses and condominiums, 200 hotel rooms, 200,000 square feet of office space, 121,600 square feet of retail space, 125 marina slips, plus a waterfront park that will b ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This week the Downtown Development Review Board approved the historic Laura Street Trio project, according to News4Jax partners at the Jax Daily Record.
The meeting Thursday advanced the $70.4 million plan that will convert three vacant urban core structures into a 146-room hotel with restaurant and retail spaces.

Project architect Tom Hurst said there will be a steak and seafood house inside the hotel along with a rooftop bar on the eighth floor. When it comes to the ground floor, guests can expect outdoor seating, public art and valet parking. The hotel will be run by Winegardner & Hammons Hotel Group LLC., which operates a Marriott Hotel in Clearwater Beach. ....

City issues permit to begin work on site of closed Jacksonville Kmart

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A permit has been issued to begin work on the old building along San Jose Boulevard that once housed a Kmart.
According to News4Jax’s news partner the Jax Daily Record, the city issued the permit Feb. 6 for Ash Construction LLC to begin remodeling the site. It plans to convert the building into a retail center.
The plans include interior demolition and storefront work, and the plans show that Ash Properties wants to expand the building.
The closed Kmart will be enlarged and divided for tenants. The Daily Record says plans show the building divided into five spaces. ....

National Park Service rejects swap of Shipyards for Metro Park property

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Another development proposal by Jaguars owner Shad Khan has hit a complication. Khan wants to replace Metropolitan Park with a hotel and mixed-use property and proposed the Shipyards property as a replacement for the park.
But according to a message from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the National Park Service denied the proposal, saying the Shipyards land “will not be considered as replacement property for Metro Park.”
The need for land to replace Metro Park goes back to a $1.7 million grant and agreement the city of Jacksonville made with the Department of Environmental Protection in 1981. ....
