WACO, TX â During the month of January, hospital rates in Trauma Service Area M reached nearly 35%. These rates were some of the highest since the onset of the pandemic in March.
With rising rates comes restaurants and retail shops limiting capacity to 50%. As we finally see a drop in rates, Mark Arnold, owner of the Cameron Trading Co. in downtown Waco, is excited for the possibilities lower hospitalization rates could bring.
Well, it does help us because more people are out, more people are relaxed and it just creates more traffic, he said. ....

MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas Waco and McLennan County health and government leaders are hosting their weekly press conference to provide updates on how the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the county.
The press conference is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. and includes updates on case counts and any possible new developments ahead of the Christmas holiday.
Here are highlights from the meeting:
Dr. Jackson Griggs said the county reported 160 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday afternoon for a total of 1,168 cases. He reported an additional five deaths Wednesday as well. From the total active cases, he said 124 patients are hospitalized with the virus and 23 are on ventilators. ....

Waco hospitals to start COVID-19 vaccinations Friday, Saturday amid new high in hospitalizations

Wacoâs hospitals are managing a rising number of COVID-19 patients and plan to administer their first doses of COVID-19 vaccine Friday and Saturday to employees, officials said Wednesday during a weekly city press conference.
Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center plans to give its first shots Friday, Dr. Marc Elieson said. Ascension Providence Medical Center plans to follow suit Saturday, said Dr. Richard Haskett, chief medical officer of Ascension Medical Group Providence in Waco. Elieson and Haskett each said their systemâs Waco hospital is seeing the effects of uncontrolled spread of the coronavirus.
The hospitals were treating 119 COVID-19 patients Wednesday, a new high, according to the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District. Several days now with more than 100 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Waco is a worrying sign, Waco Family Health Center CEO Dr. Jackson Griggs said. ....
