The crews got the new tech Tuesday afternoon. It includes thermal, infrared and night vision technology.
This is all brand new technology for us, said Eddie Teague, Jackson County Rescue Squad.
There s high-powered helmet lights to help crews see and be found if they get lost themselves. There s also tools that ll help crews see in the dark and find people faster. ....

Last night, shortly after 10pm, the Jackson county rescue squad along with JCEMS, JCSO, and JCCFD were dispatched to the area of 1248 Flatt Dyer Rd for a reported car in the water with two occupants trapped. Upon our arrival we found the situation pictured with a mother and an 11yo female trapped by swift current. Rescue members set up a line to perform the rescue using a winch off of an emergency vehicle as the tensioner to give the members slack or to tension the line to pull them back to shore. Members Cameron Hawkins and Joel Morgan entered the water one at a time and successfully performed both rescues. ....

Wednesday marked one year since a fire broke out at a marina in Jackson County and killed eight people.
It happened at Jackson County Park in the middle of a cold January night. A small fire broke out aboard a houseboat that was one of 35 boats tied up just feet apart from each other along Dock B. ....

Commission adds holidays to calendar

During their Dec. 14 meeting, the Jackson County Commission discussed adjustments to the Jackson Countyâs holiday schedule as well as the purchase of equipment for various departments.
Due to rising cases of COVID-19 in the state and county, the commission approved the addition of Dec. 28 and Dec. 29 as holidays for the county. This will allow for the courthouse to be closed for a total of 12 days during the Christmas Holiday in an attempt by the commission to address the spread of COVID-19.
A commission meeting scheduled for Dec. 28 was moved to Jan. 4 to accommodate the change.
The commission experienced a number of individuals in the courthouse test positive for COVID-19 after the Thanksgiving Holiday. The added holiday time is an attempt to limit potential exposures in county employees. ....
