Jackson To Celebrate Difference-Making Women This March Is there a woman in your life that does so much you want to go the extra mile to show your appreciation for? Well Jackson s Women s Week and American 1 Women’s Expo is coming up in March and can help you do just that. According to MLive, Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies and other leaders in the community will be giving a community proclamation to kick off Women s Week the morning of March 8th, 2021. As a part of the Women s Week festivities, MLive reports there will be a free educational series offered with daily Zoom presentations, panels and forums hosted by area leaders examining topics relevant and significant to women. Those will take place March 8th through the 12th though officials say there is no time set yet. ....
SCC to host two virtual job fairs Mike Despeaux overseeing the career fair, now being hosted virtually. Even as the pandemic continues, employers continue to seek eager workers to fill important job roles. To help with the search, Southwestern Community College’s Career Services is offering two virtual job fairs through Google Meet. While jobs are posted daily, there will be a showcase of jobs on the SCC Job Board on Monday, Feb. 15. Students can tune in at 10 a.m. to discuss opportunities with Diector of Career Services, Mike Despeaux, and co-host Paula Alter, Career Center Manager of the Macon, Jackson and Swain County NCWorks Career Centers. ....

(WLOX) - Community members in Moss Point gathered for a town hall meeting Tuesday to discuss the uptick in violence in the city. Since New Year’s Eve, three people have been killed during robberies. Community leaders discussed potential plans that could help curb the violence. Moss Point native Levi Sims emphasized that parents need to become more involved. “If you do nothing else, be a parent,” he said. “Toss your kids room tonight just to see what you might find.” ....
