Residents in the ward Wharfedale ward were electing two councillors following the resignation of Jackie Whiteley. The results for Wharfedale were: Bob Felstead Conservative 2448 (26%); Dale Smith Conservative 2148 (23%); Christopher Eric Steele Labour 1109 (12%); Jamie Luke Needle Liberal Democrats 1084 (12%); Chris Turner Green Party 991 (11%); Phillip Edward Shaw Labour 838 (9%); Sophie Francine Vanicat Green Party 398 (4%); Peter Shannon Russell Liberal Democrats 346 (4%). Councillor Dale Smith said: “I am delighted to once again be representing Wharfedale Ward at City Hall. I will try to represent all the electorate and be a strong advocate for their wellbeing. As normality returns it will doubtless expose cracks in services which need to be dealt with sympathetically.” ....

From Jackie Whiteley, retired Conservative District Councillor for Wharfedale Ward Dear Sir: I write to inform residents that I have taken the difficult decision to stand down as a District Councillor on Bradford Metropolitan District Council for personal reasons. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of Burley in Wharfedale and Menston for their support for me since I was first elected in 2012. It has been a privilege to serve the community and to represent them as an elected member of Bradford Council. During my time on the Council, I was also, for a time, a member of Burley Parish Council and a member of Leeds Bradford Airport’s Consultive Committee. I will look back on my experience in these roles warmly. ....
I READ with some interest an article about airport expansion at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) submitted by Nick Smith in this week’s Ilkley Gazette. I understand his frustrations about the consultation, as do many others who live in Burley in Wharfedale and Menston. I sit on the Airport Consultancy Committee (ACC), alongside our elected representatives, and can answer Nick s questions first hand. In January 2020, I asked our local councillors to ask Bradford Council (BDMC) to consider their response to planned changes at LBA. I also requested a local consultation by Bradford Council. Councillor Jackie Whiteley made representations on my behalf at BDMC. To put things plainly, the answer received by Councillor Whiteley from BDMC was that, Bradford Council do not have a duty to consult on this application, as the planning application is in the responsibility of the adjacent authority in Leeds. I thought that community engagement would be high on the Council s agenda, ....
