Midwest Simon CEO Says Alternative Accommodation To Hotels For Homeless Needs To Be Prioritised

The CEO of the Midwest Simon says an alternative to hotel and B&B accommodation for homeless people in Clare and elsewhere needs to be found as a priority.
It comes after a Freedom of Information request from Clare FM revealed more than four million euro was spent on providing emergency accommodation to people in this county in the last five years.
60 percent of this spend was in the last two years alone, including one million euro last year.

Fears Clare Homeless Levels Will Rise Once Eviction Ban Is Lifted

There are fears that Clare’s level of homelessness will rise sharply once the current ban on evictions is lifted.
A new report from the Simon Community shows that in many parts of the country there are no properties available within the limits of the government’s HAP scheme, with the organisation indicating it is a severe problem here locally too.
The level of homelessness in this county has remained steady since the moratorium on evictions was re-introduced when level five restrictions returned in October.

Mid West Simon appeal response "phenomenal" - The Clare Champion

AN appeal to support homeless people in Clare and other parts of the Mid West has had a “phenomenal” response according to organisers. Mid West Simon joined forces with Bus Éireann recently with a ‘Fill a Bus’ appeal, seeking contributions for the vulnerable, homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary this Christmas. More than 1,000 items were donated to fill bus parked up in Limerick last Thursday.
The ‘Fill a Bus Food Appeal’ has been a “fantastic success” according to Jackie Bonfield, CEO of Mid West Simon.
“The response from the people of Limerick has been phenomenal and the bus was filled to the brim with basic food staples, Christmas treats, toiletries and household goods. I would like to sincerely thank all those who contributed and especially to Bus Éireann staff for organizing this wonderful initiative and for helping out on the day.
