Win with Council's soft plastics survey: Bega Valley

27 July 2021
A Bega Valley Shire Council survey and competition has kicked off an awareness campaign to increase soft plastics recycling in the shire.
The survey and competition, offering three eco-hampers containing a Jackie French book and a bundle of soft plastics alternatives, will ask how the community disposes of its soft plastic waste.
Project Officer, Amber Gault said the survey and competition are the first steps in a broader campaign aimed at increasing awareness of this type of problem waste.
“Soft plastics are often treated as general waste because they can’t be disposed of in the regular yellow recycling bins,” Ms Gault said. ....

The Southern Alberta Ethnic Association hosted its first festival in over a year and it was a success, according to organizers.
The Latin Festival brought food, performers and entertainers from across Central and South America to Lethbridge for the one-day festival.
“It s been a super tough year-and-a-half with COVID, and so it s just been really nice to be able to do an event again,” said Jackie French, the festival organizer.

Controversial plans to destroy 20 hectares of precious forest in an idyllic NSW town

A plan to destroy more than 20 hectares of pristine forest that was left unscathed in  Australia s horror bushfire season to make way for a housing development has come under fire by local celebrities.
Actors Claudia Karvan and Michael Caton are among 60 prominent figures who have signed an open letter trying to prevent the controversial plan in Manyana on the New South Wales south coast.
The development would see 180 prefabricated homes built on the land, which has since become a refuge for native wildlife, by construction group Ozy Homes.
The letter was published in the Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday and called on federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley to withhold approval for the development under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.  ....
