The New York City Ballet has sent resident conductor Clotilde Otranto to Paris, London, Tokyo and Shanghai. Last February, it sent her on her longest journey: Back to Naples. The former resident conductor for the Naples Philharmonic still lives here with her husband, Armando. But she has been dividing time between Florida and New York, where she has been the sole fulltime female conductor at Lincoln Center, since 2008, devoted to the repertoire and company of the most famous ballet organization in the U.S. When the coronavirus pandemic shut down the city in February 2020, Otranto returned here, hoping, like everyone else in the company, that they would return by last fall. Then in July, ballet staff, including Otranto, were furloughed. There would be no live gala, and worse, no Nutcracker. ....

The special event will take place on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1. Both nights, two-time Grammy Award winner Robert Mirabal will perform live at sunset alongside Festival Ballet Albuquerque dancing a newly choreographed piece by New York City ballet icon Jock Soto. The piece is set to Mirabal’s song “Memoir Chaco.” It will be followed by the premiere of “Sacred Journeys II” a live stage performance film made in collaboration among Festival Ballet Albuquerque, Mirabal and Soto. ....
