LEO â Garrett and Leoâs baseball teams split a doubleheader May 8. The Railroaders won the first game 7-5. The Class 3A No. 2 Lions won the second game 15-5. In the opener, Leo led 3-1 after two innings, but Garrett scored three times each in the fourth and fifth innings. Kail Baughman pitched a complete game for the Railroaders, striking out seven, walking one and allowing six hits. Of Leoâs five runs, only two were earned. Garrett made five errors and Leo made six in the opening game. At the plate, Baughman and Graham Kelham had doubles. Jacob Molargik had two hits, driving in three runs. Kelham also had two hits. Gage Smith drove in a pair of runs. ....
Garrett 14, Central Noble 3 At Albion April 26, Garrett scored once in the first and added seven runs in the fifth and six more in the seventh for a 14-3 win over Central Noble. Kail Baughman powered the Railroadersâ 14-hit attack with two doubles and a home run, driving in three runs in the win. Jacob Molargik also had three hits. Graham Kelham, Trey Richards and Gage Smith had two hits apiece. Richards, Smith and Luke Holcomb had doubles for Garrett. Eight different players had at least one hit. Kelham stole two bases while Baughman and Richards had one. Smith took care of the rest on the mound, holding the Cougars to three hits and three walks while striking out 14. ....
The junior Railroader struck out 16 Warrior hitters in a 9-3 win. âHe was just humming out there,â Garrett head coach Jason Richards said. âI feel like this field works to his favor. He really liked the mound when he got out there. For a 6-4 kid, itâs kind of what you want to see.â â(Kelham) did a nice job throwing fastballs, but I donât think he was overpowering our guys. He shouldnât be overpowering our guys,â Westview coach Jason Rahn said. âSixteen strikeouts in 21 outs, youâre not going to win a baseball game. Thatâs just uncalled for.â ....
AUBURN â Garrett scored most of its runs late, giving new head coach Jason Richards a win in his first game at the helm. The Railroaders broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth and six more in the seventh to defeat Lakewood Park 10-1 at Auburn April 6. For most of the game, Garrett senior Gage Smith and Lakewood Park freshman Corbin White were locked in a pitcherâs duel. White pitched into the seventh when he was lifted after the first two Railroaders reached base on an error and a walk. He allowed eight hits, four coming in the sixth inning, five runs (only one earned), four strikeouts and three walks. ....
