DOVER, N.H. Lebanon Post 22 stayed alive in the New Hampshire American Legion junior state tournament hunt by riding stellar pitching from Freddy Mierke and Nick Brill to a 3-2 win over Dover Post 9 on Saturday at Dover High School.
The victory kept Post 22 (5-10) tied with Merrimack Post 98 for the fourth and final tourney spot out of District A. Both teams have two games left on their regular-season slates.
Mierke earned the win for Lebanon, throwing six innings and allowing just one earned run with four hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Brill came on in the seventh to shut down Dover (7-5) without allowing a run.

BENNINGTON, Vt. White River Junction Post 84 jumped to a 6-0 lead through an inning and a half, a fast start that proved essential in a 6-5 win over Bennington Post 13 in Vermont American Legion baseball action on Wednesday night at Mount Anthony Union High School.
Three-run frames put Post 84 (6-4) ahead to stay. Post 13 (5-7) closed the gap by the sixth but left runners in scoring position in its final two at-bats.
Collin Vielleux singled ahead of back-to-back doubles from Ethan Belvin and Danny Bushway in the WRJ first. Bushway later scored on an error to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.
