ROJ fetes young ones in marking National Children's Day

Former junior Reggae Boy impacting lives in Central Village with camp

Former national youth football vice-captain, Kimani Gibbons, speaks to a group of boys at one of his football training camps in Central Village, St Catherine. Former national youth football vice-captain, Kimani Gibbons, has launched the Aptitude Football Academy in Central Village, St Catherine. Gibbons, who grew up and still lives on Russell Avenue in the community, is targeting the development of talent and helping to shape lives away from violence, among primary objectives. “I named the academy Aptitude Football Academy because aptitude means having a natural ability to do something. There are a lot of children in the community who have the ability to play football, but don’t have the opportunity to go out there and showcase their talent,” said Gibbons.

Kiwanians host signature back-to-school project in Spanish Town

The Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals St Catherine (KCYPSC) of Division 23 West hosted its inaugural Signature Project in the form of a Back-to-School Project on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Ellerslie Gardens in Spanish Town. The project, which was initially organised to provide for 100 children, exceeded its expectations by providing for over 200 children, according to the organisers. Kiwanis International mantra is ‘Serving the Children of the World’. It is with this in mind that the club did a community analysis in this low income community in Spanish Town, identified their needs and decided to help children whose parents are single mothers, unemployed mothers and fathers with back to school supplies, said the club in a press release.
