Royals intensity too much for lackadaisical Cougars

Royals intensity too much for lackadaisical Cougars SHARE ON: (Photo credit Paige Bednorz) The Prince George Cougars might want to show up an hour earlier than normal the next time they line up against the Victoria Royals. Another slow start for the Cats proved costly on Saturday as they fell 2-1 in Kelowna to the BC Division’s last place team for a third time this season. Cougars Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb didn’t mince words on the lackadaisical effort. “We played the same way as we practiced yesterday (Friday). It has a lot to do with the mindset, digging in and playing real hard. We probably got a little too happy with the way we have been playing as of late.”

The dominant team in the WHL’s Central Division during the 2020-21 season wrapped up their campaign in style on Thursday night. While the Oil Kings were able to capture their third straight Central Division title, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that they wouldn’t be able to showcase their squad in the playoffs for the second straight spring after reaching the Eastern Conference in 2019 before falling to the Prince Albert Raiders.

Prince Albert Daily Herald Moe, Nachbaur and Paddock wrap up WHL careers The strangest season in Prince Albert Raiders history concluded on Wednesday night with one of the most bizarre contests the team has ever taken part in. As a result of the play, Davies was given a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, but Paddock was given a five-minute match penalty and a game misconduct for what the officials deemed as an attempt to injure.

Pats drop 5-2 decision to Winnipeg Ice

By Ryan McNally Photo Courtesy: Keith Hershmiller The experience of the Winnipeg Ice was too much for the young Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre on Saturday afternoon. The Pats lost 5-2 to the Ice, dropping their second in a row and bringing their record down to 4-6-2. Head Coach Dave Struch says the Pats’ youth got exposed against a veteran Winnipeg team. “We couldn’t handle their 12 high-end forwards , and that’s in a nut shell really,” Struch said. “We know that we want to get the puck in deep against these guys, take advantage of their young defencemen, and (Saturday) there was not enough of that from our young guys.”
