By Josh Bean | For the AHSAA OXFORD – Orange Beach High School’s girls’ softball team ended its first season in memorable fashion. Makos’ seventh-grader Ava Hodo launched a dramatic two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting Orange Beach to a 3-2 victory over Pisgah in the Thursday’s Class 2A championship game at Choccolocco Park’s softball stadium. Hodo’s teammates mobbed her at home plate as she ended the school’s first year with a state championship. “I just wanted to hit a line drive to get my team going and start something,” Hodo told AL.com after the game. “To get a walk-off, it’s something you dream about. Then the McCarl Family had two motors blow in about a 10:00 timeframe with Austin’s expiring in hot laps. His crew changed the power plant, only to see younger brother Carson’s motor bite the dust. With no more motors left, Austin scratched for the night and allowed Carson to drive his car due to Carson running for points this season. On the track, Matthew Stelzer won back-to-back races Saturday in the Pro Sprints, while Clint Garner dominated the 360 race leading every lap. Garner told KNIA/KRLS Sports time trialing was the key to his winning the night. ....
