OTTAWA Lawyers for an Egyptian asylum-seeker are calling for increased oversight of the Canada Border Services Agency after he says his family has faced intimidation since an officer contacted authorities in his country of origin. Naseem Mithoowani said her client Abdelrahman Elmady, who came to Vancouver as a refugee claimant more than three years ago, is facing deportation after he was found inadmissible to Canada. A transcript of Elmady s detention-review hearing on Oct. 18, 2017, shows that counsel for the public safety minister said the CBSA was seeking copies of a police summons issued against Elmady in Egypt. That s problematic, Mithoowani said in an interview.
